Pepeha

We have been learning how to introduce ourselves in Maori, we called that pepehas.

A pepeha always starts with the mountain which we are related to, then we looked at the ocean, the river, our marae, our iwi, our whanau and our names.

Here is an example:

My Pepeha
Ko              toku maunga (mountain).
Ko              toku moana (ocean).
Ko              toku awa (river).
Ko              toku marae.
Ko              toku iwi (nationality).
Ko              toku whanau (surname).

Ko              toku ingoa (name).
